Body pulled from Pontchartrain is Causeway jumper, coroner says

Coast Guard search crews located a body Sunday morning in Lake Pontchartrain just a few miles south of Bayou Lacombe.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were notified by the Coast Guard around 7:50 a.m. Officers then recovered the body and relocated to the Mandeville Harbor where officials with the coroner's officer were waiting to take the remains.

A spokesperson with the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office says that the deceased has been identified 28-year-old Darryl Davis, Jr. of Foley, Alabama.

Officials had been searching for Davis since Aug. 6. He was allegedly driving a stolen pick-up truck southbound on the Causeway Bridge when he ran into construction crews and Causeway Police. Davis immediately turned around and began driving against traffic. Police pursued him until he came to a stop around the 10-mile post, according to Causeway officials. He then got out of the truck and jumped in to Lake Pontchartrain.

The autopsy will be performed on Monday, according to the spokesperson.
