JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A portion of the sewer system in River Ridge will be shut off beginning Monday morning while crews work to repair a 24-inch main break. The break, located near the intersection of Citrus Road and Generes Drive occurred Sunday. Residents in River Ridge west of Folse Street and south of the Soniat Canal will be affected.
Jefferson Parish officials say that the break is in the sewer force main which transports sewerage to the treatment plant. The break caused sewerage to spill into the street at the site. Crews began the clean up process Sunday evening. Officials ask residents to stay away from the area.
According to officials, the break does not affect drinking water. Officials do urge residents and business owners in River Ridge to limit the use of water and asked not to do any nonessential activities where water will enter the sewer system.
The closure also affects traffic as the Citrus Road bridge over the Soniat Canal has been closed in both directions. Work will be done on the east side of the bridge on Generes Drive. Officials say it is unknown how long the repair work will take.
