CEDAR GROVE, LA (WVUE) - Authorities recovered a badly decomposed body from the Mississippi River near Cedar Grove.
Officials discovered the body Monday around 7:30 a.m. floating near river mile marker 70, just south of Belle Chasse.
Crew members aboard the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District vessel Port Authority I responded to the area and at approximately 8 a.m. pulled the body from the water. The body was released to Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Office investigators.
The body's advanced state of decomposition prevented investigators from determining the identity, race or gender.
The Jefferson parish Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy Tuesday morning.
Anyone with information on the person's identity and circumstances of the death is urged to contact the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Bureau at 504-564-2525.
