Registered sex offender accused of assaulting girl at sleepover

CHAUVIN, LA (WVUE) - A Gibson man who is a registered sex offender was arrested Tuesday afternoon for indecent behavior with a 9-year-old girl, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday deputies responded to a complaint in Chauvin by the victim's mother, who told them that a man had forced her daughter into sexual activity while she was staying at a friend's house.

Detectives learned that the victim had been approached by 38-year-old Randolph Short Jr., who was friends with the resident of the home where the girl was sleeping over. Short allegedly coaxed the victim into the kitchen and forced her to touch him. The next morning, as the children slept, Short woke the victim and attempted further sexual contact.

The victim alerted her sleeping friend and a neighbor, and Short left the scene before deputies arrived.

He was located Tuesday afternoon and arrested for one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile. He was jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex where he awaits a bond hearing.
