A Houma man faces numerous charges, including battery on a police officer, following a disturbance call at a Houma hotel.

Frank Hoogeveen, 56, was arrested on Tuesday following an incident at the Sugar Bowl Motel.

Officials first received reports of the disturbance around 10 a.m. Tuesday. Houma police were called to the hotel, located in the 8000 block of W. Park Ave., where a man allegedly threatened a tenant with a metal pipe.

Officers arriving on the scene say they found Hoogeveen sitting on a chair in front a room with a knife alongside him. Police say Hoogeveen was previously banned from the business due to erratic behavior

Officers instructed Hoogeveen to stand, which he refused. As police moved toward the man, officers say he moved toward his knife. He was immediately tased, according to the Houma Police Department.

During his arrest, officers say Hoogeveen began fighting with officers, striking and kicking them.

He was arrested for disturbing the peace, remaining after being forbidden, resisting arrest with force or violence and three counts of battery on a police officer.

He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex and booked on the aforementioned charges.
