Identity of body pulled from Mississippi River remains a mystery

BELLE CHASSE, LA (WVUE) -

Authorities have been unable to identify a body pulled from the Mississippi River Monday just south of Belle Chasse.

A badly decomposed body was discovered around 7:30 a.m. Monday floating near river mile marker 70, just south of Belle Chasse.

An autopsy was performed by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office Tuesday, showing no signs of trauma to the body. However, officials have not been able to positively identify the body.

Officials have released a description of the man. The coroner believes the body is that of a 60-75 year-old man. He was approximately 6’01” tall and weighed around 190 pounds, according to the coroner.

A the time of discovery, the man was wearing “Faded Glory" jeans, a brown belt, grey socks and size 11 “Chaco” sandals. Officers have released a photo of the man’s sandals, believing they are a distinguishing feature.

Investigators say they submitted the man’s fingerprints through local and national databases, but have not yet received any matches.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office has no reports of a missing person and is working with other agencies in the area to solve the case.
