Property owners in Orleans Parish who dispute their property value assessments have until Monday, Aug. 17 to file an informal appeal in person. They can file for an appeal because of inaccurate square footage and neighboring properties that were sold at a relatively lower market value.
The Orleans Assessor's Office recommends you bring with you pictures and documents, including a recent appraisal, homeowner's insurance or a builder's contract that explain why the value should be changed. Property owners can meet with an Assessor's Office rep at one of four locations: City Hall, the Algiers Courthouse, the Lakeview Christian Center on Fleur de Lis and a satellite office on Bullard in New Orleans East. People have until Monday for in person appeals between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
If you'd rather appeal online, you have a few more days to explain why your taxable value should change. Between now and August 20th, go to www.nolaassessor.com and look for the link to file your online appeal.
