The Saints defense was very poor to start the game, allowing the Ravens to march 80 yards on 16 plays to take an early 7-0 lead. New Orleans also lost a pair of defenders on the opening drive with starting cornerback Brandon Browner and linebacker Danell Ellerbe leaving the field with injury.
Later, corner Delvin Breaux also came up slow and headed to the locker room. The Saints then allowed a 45-yard touchdown pass from Ravens backup quarterback Matt Schaub to Michael Campanaro to make it 14-0 in the first quarter. Baltimore added a field goal to make it 17-0.
After going three-and-out on its first two offensive possessions, New Orleans finally got something going with a 10 play, 77-yard scoring drive. Luke McCown hit Brandin Cooks on a quick screen, and Cooks raced 28 yards to the house for the Saints' first score of the preseason. McCown finished 7-of-10 passing for 75 yards.
Ravens kicker Justin Tucker added a second field goal before the half, and Baltimore led 20-7.
New Orleans answered back behind Ryan Griffin and running back Khiry Robinson, who added a 29-yard run before hauling in 21-yard scoring strike from Griffin. The touchdown made it a 20-14 game.
