LPSO: Drug suspect arrested after ramming police vehicle, multi-car crash

Two Larose residents were arrested and more than $10,000 in drugs and cash were seized after an investigation by the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force, according to Sheriff Craig Webre.

Adrian Tran, 20, and Terrierenee Billiot, 19, each face several charges.

According to the sheriff, the task force had been investigating Tran and had obtained two warrants for his arrest for distribution of marijuana. When agents learned that Tran was at a car wash on Hamilton Street Tuesday afternoon, they went to the location and used their vehicles to block both ends of the car wash stall with their emergency lights activated.

The sheriff said Tran shifted his vehicle into reverse and used it to move one of the LPSO units. He then fled in his car toward Highway 308, and agents saw him throw a large amount of money out of the window. As he passed through the intersection of Hamilton Street and Highway 308, Tran caused a five-car crash, and several people were taken to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

As Tran exited his vehicle, a large bag of what agents suspected was marijuana fell out of the car. Agents later found additional cash and a stolen handgun inside the vehicle, the sheriff said.

In speaking with agents, Tran admitted to having additional marijuana at his St. Louis Street home. Agents responded and discovered his girlfriend, Billiot, at the home with two juveniles. Agents recovered additional drugs and cash at the home as well as drug paraphernalia. In all, agents seized nearly one pound of suspected marijuana with a street value of approximately $9,068, along with $1,658 in cash.

Tran was treated at a local hospital and was then transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was booked on the two outstanding warrants, as well as possession with Intent to distribute marijuana, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, use of a controlled drug in the presence of persons under 17, aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated criminal damage to property, vehicular negligent injuring, obstruction of justice, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $216,000.

Billiot was booked with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and use of a controlled drug in the presence of persons under 17. She was released on Aug. 12 after posting $11,000 bond.
