Mayor Landrieu issues statement on passing of Dr. Norman McSwain

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued a statement, Saturday, on the passing of former NOPD Police Surgeon Dr. Norman McSwain, according to a spokesperson with the Mayor's office. Dr. McSwain passed away on July 28, 2015 at the age of 78. 

In addition to serving as the Police Surgeon for the NOPD for the past 35 years, Dr. McSwain was also Medical Director for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for the past 30 years. 

Mayor Landrieu released the following statement: 

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Norman McSwain.  He was a pioneer in his field and a beloved member of the NOPD family.  My thoughts and prayers are with Dr. McSwain's family during this very difficult time.  I am confident that his legacy will continue through those who knew him best."

Dr. Norman McSwain will be laid to rest at Lakelawn Funeral Home on Sunday.
