NOPD releases surveillance footage of armed suspect at Gentilly Walmart

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans Police released surveillance footage of an armed suspect who caused and evacuation and SWAT roll at the Gentilly Walmart. The incident occurred Saturday at 6 a.m. at the store located in the 4300 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

Police say that the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, walked into the store, causing customers and employees to panic and run. Responding officers quickly arrived on scene and helped the remaining customers and employees out of the store.

The SWAT team responded and searched the store, but could not find the suspect. Detectives later learned that the suspect exited the store through a fire escape. He was last seen running east towards Louisa Street then in an unknown direction.

Police say that no shots were fired and no injuries were reported. They also say that there were no hostages during the incident and the suspect never took anything from the business.
