NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - At the busy intersection of Elysian Fields and North Claiborne, an armed robber didn't seem to hesitate.
"Around 4 o'clock this morning, the guy came into the store with a gun in his hand, and he pointed a gun right at the cashier," manager Zaher Aljaouharr said.
The manager of the Magnolia Discount says there are usually two cashiers on duty, but early this morning, only one was working.
"He said, give me everything, and don't waste my time. He gave him the money, and he ran out," Aljaouharr said.
A customer was inside at the time, and the manager said the gunman told them to get down on the floor. Outside, he said there was a customer on a bike who may not have even realized what was going on.
He said the whole incident happened within seconds, and the gunman managed to escape.
Police are investigating that incident and six other armed robberies that happened overnight across the city.
In Gentilly, a carjacking victim told FOX 8 that he was sitting in his car outside his home in the 2300 block of Prentiss when two armed men walked up and demanded his car.
Police are investigating whether that incident is connected to an armed robbery just a few blocks away at Burbank and Vermillion, where two gunmen stole a man's wallet and cellphone.
The Magnolia Discount on S. Carrollton was also hit. The manager there told FOX 8 that the NOPD has surveillance video from the incident.
