AFR: Fazende's latest 53-man roster projection

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WVUE) -

One preseason game was enough to make a few tweaks to my latest 53-man roster projection.

Here is how I see things shaping up:

Quarterbacks (3)
Drew Brees
Ryan Griffin
Garrett Grayson

-I think it's finally time to give Griffin the nod over Luke McCown.  Griffin looks more comfortable in his third year in this offense. At some point Griffin will get some reps with the first team, if he can play well it might finally be the boost to officially make him Drew Brees' backup.

Running Backs (4)
C.J. Spiller
Mark Ingram
Khiry Robinson
Marcus Murphy

-Even with Spiller's injury, this is starting to look like one of the strongest groups on the offense. Murphy's role as a returner
Thursday may have cemented him on the final 53. As we saw, he can run and catch it as well.

Fullback (1)
Austin Johnson

-Johnson is getting a lot of first team reps and appears to have passed up Erik Lorig.

Wide Receiver (6)
Marques Colston
Brandin Cooks
Brandon Coleman
Joe Morgan
Willie Snead
Seantavius Jones

-Still the toughest to project. I'm officially putting Snead on the roster. He has a great football IQ and brings diversity to the
group as a smaller, underneath type receiver. This group could fluctuate based on every preseason game.

Tight End (3)
Josh Hill
Ben Watson
Orson Charles

-Charles has been the most consistent performer at the third tight end position.

Offensive Linemen (8)
Zach Strief
Jahri Evans
Max Unger
Tim Lelito
Terron Armstead
Andrus Peat
Senio Kelemete
Sean Hickey

-Going back and forth with Hickey and Mike McGlynn. For the final lineman spot on the roster, it's probably best to go younger and
cheaper.

Defensive Linemen (7)
Cam Jordan
Akiem Hicks
John Jenkins
Kevin Williams
Bobby Richardson
Tyeler Davison
Kasim Edebali

-No change here. Richardson started Thursday with Akiem Hicks out, that should tell you how far he has already come.

Linebackers (7)
Stephone Anthony
David Hawthorne
Dannell Ellerbe
Ramon Humber
Hau'oli Kikaha
Parys Haralson
Davis Tull

-I'm very close to adding undrafted rookie Henry Coley to this list. Tull is an interesting case because he is a draft pick that
is now off PUP. I think there's room for one veteran strongside linebacker. In this scenario, I'm keeping Haralson over Anthony Spencer.

Cornerbacks (6)
Brandon Browner
Keenan Lewis
Delvin Breaux
P.J. Williams
Damian Swann
Stanley Jean-Baptiste

-This is a banged up group right now with both Browner and Breaux nicked up.

Safety (5)
Jairus Byrd
Rafael Bush
Kenny Vaccaro
Vinnie Sunseri
Jamarca Sanford

-Sanford has come on strong over the last couple of practices. Byrd's injury is still a mystery.

Specialists (3)
Thomas Morstead
Dustin Hopkins
Justin Drescher

-Hocker has certainly closed the gap after making a 47 and 50-yard field goal Thursday
night. However, I still have Hopkins in the lead. It's highly likely that Hopkins will get the bulk of the attempts next week.
