TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Two K-9s with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office now have bullet and stab protective vests thanks to a donation from a non-profit group.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter says Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. awarded two vests for canines on his staff. The ballistic vests range about $1,500 - $2,000 each.

Larpenter says the vests will protect Ilka and Caron, two K-9s he says are a huge part of the TPSO family that need protection.

The non-profit based in Massachusetts says its mission is to provide vests to law enforcement agencies around the country.
