As the 10 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches, Mayor Mitch Landrieu plans to announce major plans to commemorate the anniversary.
Landrieu will announce plans Friday for a city-wide day of service scheduled for next Saturday (Aug. 30), which marks the day Katrina made landfall.
With support from Walmart, Landrieu and the city have set a goal of 10,000 volunteers to help work on a number of projects throughout the day.
Landrieu will also discuss the “Power of Community” event, which also will take place on Saturday at the Smoothie King Center.
Friday’s announcement starts at 1:30 p.m. at Gallier Hall.
