COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Narcotics Task Force made an arrest connected to a drug overdose that sent three high school students to the hospital.
Thursday, three teenage students at Covington High School were taken by ambulance to an area hospital be treated.
Officers from the sheriff's office, Covington Police Department, Mandeville Police Department and Slidell Police Department were called in to investigate the incident.
Officers arrested Caleb Badeaux, 18, of Folsom, on suspicion of supplying synthetic marijuana, also known as "mojo."
"As we have seen in the past, the harm synthetic drugs like "mojo" can do to a person is unbelievable. Yesterday three young men found themselves in an emergency room because of the drug." Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz said. "As School Board Superintendent Folse said yesterday, we encourage our parents to have a talk with their kids, explain to them how harmful these drugs are, and the consequences of their illegal use."
The students are expected to be okay. Police say more arrests could follow as the investigation unfolds.
