NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Saints hit the ground running on offense and defense in their preseason homecoming Saturday night.

The Saints jumped out to a 17-0 leads during the first half, but eventually fell 26-24 to the New England Patriots during their second preseason game of the year. While fans may be disappointed by the loss, they have to like what they saw from their starters.

Quarterback Drew Brees pulled off three scoring drives in the first quarter. Brees went 8 of 10 for 159 yards and two touch downs during the game, pulling off a quarterback rating of 158.3.

Speedy wideout Brandin Cooks led the Saints in receiving with 117 yards. He caught all four passes thrown to him including a 45-yard touchdown pass from Brees. Tight End Benjamin Watson pulled in Brees' other touchdown pass on a 10-yard play in the red zone.

Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady played only nine snaps Saturday. The Saints defense made his time on the field miserable, forcing 3-and-outs every time Tom Brady lined up. Brady ended the night 2 of 5 for 13 yards.

Mark Ingram led the Saints rushing attack with 6 carrier for only 18 yards, but he did most of his damage through the air pulling in three passes for 45 yards.

No injuries were reported to the Saints.

New Orleans returns to The Dome next Sunday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. Tune in to Fox 8 to watch the entire game along with our pre-game coverage and post-game analysis.

Alvin Kamara did it all last season for Sean Payton's offense, and that's why he's No. 2 on our ranking the Saints countdown. Kamara burst onto the scene, mesmerized saints fans, and the entire NFL with his unique running style. His stat line, amazing: 728 yards rushing, averaged over six yards per carry, with  eight touchdowns. He also added 81 catches with five touchdowns. All the while playing just 45 percent of the Saints offensive snaps. Kamara ran away with the NFL's Off...more>>
