METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

An elderly woman was the target of a hold-up Monday morning in Metairie.  The armed robbery happened around 9:30 am in the 2900 block of Veterans near the Causeway intersection.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Glen Boyd says the elderly woman was in the parking lot, heading into the Rouse's Supermarket when an unknown man approached her.  Boyd says the suspect, described only as a black man, pulled up his shirt to expose a gun in his waistband.  He then grabbed the woman's purse and ran to car to make his get-away.

The gunman reportedly jumped into a four-door gray car and fled eastbound on Veterans Boulevard towards New Orleans.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
