NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Another brazen armed robbery, this time in broad daylight Monday at a popular grocery store.

"For it to be broad daylight, 9 o'clock in the morning, I thought that was unusual," said Metairie resident Kenyon McCall.

Shoppers were surprised.

"I don't know if it is people on drugs or whatever, but I think that might be a lot to do with it. They just get desperate, see an opportunity and go for it," McCall said.

It seems no neighborhood is immune, with the latest armed robbery happening in the Rouse's parking lot on Veterans near Causeway. According to investigators, an elderly woman was robbed right outside the grocery store after a man confronted her, raising his shirt to expose a weapon stuck inside his waistband. He then jumped into a four-door gray car and got away with the woman's purse.

"No, I think it is ridiculous. I think that is when people are going to school, that's when people are coming to grab some groceries first thing in the morning, and it's not what you are expecting on a busy street like Veterans," said resident Dawn Delesdernier.

On Sunday, another armed robbery occurred at the Sterling Express on Airline Highway. Surveillance video shows the suspect walking into the store, armed with a pistol and demanding cash.

Also, Sunday, a Gentilly man was beaten and robbed. That attack happened just after midnight, in the 3500 block of Clematis Street. A surveillance camera was also rolling on that crime. Video shows three men at the homeowner's back door. They kick the door down, rush in and steal cash and property while one of the suspects beats the victim with a gun.

And, Thursday night, armed robbers stormed into the popular Uptown restaurant Patois and held up customers and staff.

From Orleans to Jefferson, residents are watching their backs.

"I'll continue to shop here, but I'll just keep an eye out and be more careful," McCall said.

All of those armed robbery suspects are still at large. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
