LPSO: Two arrested, one sought in parish government truck theft

LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Deputies have arrested two men and are searching for a third following the theft of two Lafourche Parish Government trucks, which were taken from the Raceland Field Office. The incident occurred Saturday August 22nd around 12:45 a.m.

According to police, deputies tried to stop a white pickup truck on Highway 1 in Raceland, but the driver attempted to flee. The truck continued down several streets, and after hitting spike strips put down by police, it came to a stop near the intersection of Brocato Lane and Kahn Street. Police took the driver, identified as 18-year-old Calvin Williams, into custody as he got out of the truck. Williams was transported to jail where he was booked with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, simple burglary, aggravated flight from an officer, no driver's license, and failure to stop at a red light. Williams posted his $135,200 bond Monday morning and was released.

Deputies noticed that the vehicle was a marked parish government truck that was reported stolen from the Raceland Field Office on Texas Street. After further investigation, deputies learned that Williams, along with 18-year-old Jahi Raymond and 20-year-old Travonta Caine broke into the office and stole two parish trucks. Police obtained warrants for the two remaining men.

On Saturday, Raymond was found in Raceland and taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, and one count of simple burglary. He remains in Lafourche Parish Jail on a $35,000 bond. Police say that Raymond is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Police are still searching for Travonta Caine, who is wanted for two counts of theft of a motor vehicle and simple burglary.

If you have any information that could help police with this case, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers Bayou Region at 1-800-743-7433.
