AMITE, LA (WVUE) - A 22-year-old woman is dead following a head-on collision near Amite, Louisiana.
The accident happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 55 between Independence and Amite.
Officers say Summer Graves, of Amite, was killed while traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the interstate.
Minutes before the crash, state troopers say they received report of a wrong-way driver on I-55. Two minutes after the initial call, officers were informed of a head-on collision nearby.
Troopers say that Graves was driving a Dodge Caravan when she collided head-on with a southbound vehicle.
Graves was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say they suspect Graves was impaired at the time of the crash. The driver of the southbound vehicle, identified as 63-year-old Jackie Hartfield, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Blood samples were obtained from both drivers and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
