NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A former New Orleans council member convicted of corruption takes another step toward seeking a new trial.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is set to hear Renee Gill Pratt's case on Monday morning.

She is currently serving a prison sentence of four years and two months.

Pratt served in Louisiana's state house and on the New Orleans City Council. She was convicted in a plot to steal more than $1 million from taxpayer-funded charities.

Pratt’s attorney says the case was tainted by the once-anonymous online comments of a former federal prosecutor.

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Sal Perricone resigned in 2012 after it was revealed that he was the source of anonymous online comments on several cases.
