TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A bicyclist was killed late Monday night after being stuck by a vehicle in Tangipahoa Parish.
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday on the U.S. 190 Tangipahoa River Bridge.
A Ford Escape, driven by 24-year-old Kateria Edmon, was driving westbound on the bridge when her vehicle crashed into the rear of the bicycle, Louisiana State Police said.
The unidentified bicyclist was ejected from her bike. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that the bicycle was not equipped with lamps or rear facing reflectors. Troopers add that she was also wearing dark clothing. Troopers are working on identifying the bicyclist. The victim has been described as a white female who appears to be in her mid to late 20s with long brown hair and brown eyes, troopers said. She has a red Egyptian Ankh tattoo on her left ankle.
Troopers said they do not suspect Edmon was impaired at the time of the crash. Blood samples were obtained from both drivers and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
