Saints place Spencer on injured reserve, trim roster to 75

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The New Orleans Saints have placed veteran linebacker Anthony Spencer on injured reserve while meeting an NFL requirement for rosters to be trimmed to 75.

The Saints also put rookie cornerback P.J. Williams, a third-round draft choice, on injured reserve, and waived safety Vinnie Sunseri, linebacker Ronald Powell and receiver Nick Toon with various undisclosed injuries.

The Saints had hoped Spencer, a former Pro Bowl player, would become a significant contributor. He spent his first eight seasons with Dallas, where he played three seasons under current Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

New Orleans also cut veteran fullback Eric Lorig as part of Tuesday's roster moves and claimed former Miami defensive back Sammy Seamster off of waivers.
