NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans residents do not like tourists. At least that's what a new study states.
It's a massive industry that has a positive economic impact on thousands of New Orleans businesses and employees. Still, many are critical toward tourists in the city.
The study is based on geotagged tweets containing the word "tourist" or "tourists." These tweets were analyzed to determine how positive or negative each city's tourist-related tweets were. The tweets were collected from June 1, 2014 through July 20, 2015. See the full methodology here.
New Orleans ranked No. 5 on the list of "tourist-hating" cities. Arlington, Texas sits at the top of the list, featuring the most tweets with negative sentiments toward visitors. New York, Las Vegas and Boston follow suit.
On the other end of the spectrum, Chicago reigns as the most "tourist-loving" city. Atlanta, Philadelphia, Miami and Portland follow.
