Sheriff: Man tosses crack, heroin in bayou during car chase

PAINCOURTVILLE, LA (WVUE) -

Assumption Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrest 32-year-old Justin Fair for allegedly selling drugs in Paincourtville.

Deputies say someone tipped off their office about someone selling drugs Tuesday around 9 a.m. at the Family Dollar store on LA-1 near St. Peter Street.

When deputies arrived, they say Fair drove off, nearly hitting a vehicle on LA-1. He crossed Bayou Lafourche on the LA-403 bridge, then turned south on LA-308.

During the chase, deputies say he threw several objects out of his car, then stopped and surrendered. The objects recovered include suspected crack cocaine weighing almost two ounces and large chunks of suspected heroin weighing over one ounce.

Fair was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center one two counts of possession with intent to distribute, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, improper lane usage, stop sign violation, and drug paraphernalia.
