NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A military court-martial clears Coast Guard Petty Officer Greg Cooper of rape allegations, according to his attorney.

The court-martial, which began Tuesday at the Hale Boggs Federal Building in New Orleans, acquitted Cooper of four counts of sexual assault and other charges including adultery.

Cooper was found guilty of one charge of violating his command fraternization policy by having a consensual relationship.

According to the Coast Guard, the alleged incidents took place while Cooper was assigned to a cutter based in Grand Isle and the Aids to Navigation Team in Seattle, WA.

His attorney, retired U.S. Navy Commander J.B. Wells, says the charges against his client did not make sense.

"In one case the outcry came after Petty Officer Cooper broke up with the complainer after living with her for six months," said Wells in an e-mailed statement.

Wells called the case, "a wanton example of political correctness gone amok."

The court-martial sentenced Cooper to a one grade pay reduction on the single conviction.
