A blood sample taken from a sentinel chicken on Aug. 26 tested positive for West Nile Virus.
Parish officials say this is the second positive test in the Taft area.
Mosquito Control Services has increased spraying and other abatement procedures in the area, and urges residents to be sure there is no standing water on their property and use repellents containing EPA-registered active ingredients including, DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon-eucalyptus.
