NOPD: Unknown projectile strikes, damages unmarked NOPD car

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

An unmarked NOPD patrol car was damaged Friday night by an unknown projectile. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the 6900 block of Almonaster Boulevard.

Police say that Lt. Anthony Micheu, who was patrolling the area following calls of illegal street racing, just finished a traffic stop on Almonaster. As Lt. Micheu was driving through a large crowd to pursue a vehicle that was driving erratically, he heard what he thought were loud popping noises nearby. Lt. Micheu then noticed that his driver's side rear door window was severely cracked by an unknown projectile.

Lt. Micheu immediately called in an "officer in danger/needs assistance" call. Responding officers arrived on scene to search for casings, but could not find any. Investigators are working to determine what struck Lt. Micheu's car.
