ALGIERS, LA (WVUE) -

An elderly woman is still trying to understand a brazen attack that left her shaken up Sunday morning.

The 82-year-old victim said she was on her front porch at around 7:30 a.m. when three men approached her with a gun and forced her inside her Algiers Point home.

“At first I thought it was a joke or something, and then I realized it was for real and then I started panicking, and they told me to get in my house and asked me where my jewelry was,” she said.

She said the men started to rummage through her belongings but didn’t find much other than some jewelry and her big screen TV.

“One of them had a gun. I'm not sure if it was a real gun or not, but he had it up by my head. I just knew I was a goner,” the victim said.

She thinks the thieves targeted her because of her age, hoping she would be an easy mark, but neighbors feel someone is pinpointing the Algiers Point neighborhood.

“I think it's odd, what's happening in the last few days, I feel like we're being targeted,” said Erika Hand, who lives nearby.

Hand said she’s hopeful the crime will bolster the neighborhood to be more vigilant.

“There were people driving around the neighborhood last night, just surveying what was going on. So I think more people are going to be vigilant,” Hand said. “I want a camera, because I not only want to protect myself, I want to protect my neighbors, and I think that's the feeling here.”

The elderly woman said as the thieves were leaving, they reset a table that was knocked over and apologized to the woman as they walked out with her property.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
