NOPD: Man brought gun, fake money into restaurant

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Police arrested a man accused of bringing a gun and fake money into a Popeye's in New Orleans East.

Randy Holmes, 23, was booked with illegal carrying of a firearm. Police said on the morning of Aug. 7, Holmes entered the restaurant and tried to get change for a $10 bill. When the cashier told Holmes the money was fake, an argument ensued. Holmes allegedly began adjusting his pants, and employees and patrons of the restaurant said they saw a gun in his waistband.

Restaurant workers called police, and when officers arrived they saw Holmes standing behind a fence next to Popeye's. Police say Holmes then took the gun out of his waistband and ran behind a nearby business. Police chased him and arrested him in the 7500 block of Read Boulevard. They also recovered the gun that he allegedly threw behind the business.
