City Council to discuss Mayor Landrieu house arrest threat

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans City Council meets Wednesday to discuss lawsuits that could lead to house arrest for Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

A judge threatened the mayor last week with house arrest, if the city does not come up with a plan to pay $75 million in back pay to firefighters. The city has already filed an appeal to the contempt ruling. Landrieu says paying the money will bankrupt the city.

When City Council meets, it's possible council members will discuss chances they will eventually face house arrest threats. "Truly it's the City Council who has the purse strings," said FOX 8 Legal Analyst Joseph Raspanti.
