NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - "If you're not an NFL player, it's not a big deal. If you're an NFL player, it is a big deal because they're scrutinized and they're held by a different standard," former sports agent Doug Sunseri said.
FOX 8 obtained the police report that accuses Saints defensive end Cam Jordan of a disturbance at the Republic nightclub early Sunday morning. In it are several unflattering allegations that Jordan's attorney calls "ridiculous."
According to the report, a couple at the club was approached by Jordan. A FOX 8 source said the couple claimed to know Jordan, and they said he swatted the woman on her backside. The report states that a few minutes later, the woman's boyfriend followed Jordan to the bathroom.
The man claims he approached Jordan and asked him "why he was disrespectful to them." The report says Jordan replied, "I can have any (expletive) that I want."
The report goes on to say that Jordan asked the man how much he weighed and then "suddenly picked up and held him high in the air against his will while passersby took pictures. The man stated that Mr. Jordan told him that he had struck other people for less."
After putting the man down, the report says Jordan later approached the couple in the club and sprayed cold champagne on them.
While the case is still under investigation, Saints head Coach Sean Payton said it's something the organization is paying close attention to.
"The bottom line is, we're gathering information. We're aware of it, and I'm anxious to find out more. Look, I think I know Cam pretty well, but I also think at this time, I don't know all the details. I know you don't," Payton said.
"It's putting yourself in a situation that can be misinterpreted and affect his ability to play on the field," Sunseri said.
Sunseri said while the case is merely under investigation, Jordan could face some stiff penalties if he's arrested or cited.
"If a player violates the sexual conduct provisions of the NFL, then they could be liable for a six-game suspension without pay," Sunseri said.
If the disturbance case moves forward, Sunseri said the NFL has the discretion to suspend or fine Jordan for anything that could be a violation of the law.
On Wednesday, Jordan attorney Ralph Capitell released the following statement:
"Today, the local media obtained a copy of a police report pursuant to a public records request filed by an individual who made certain allegations against Cam Jordan. The allegations in this police report are ridiculous. Can Jordan did not cause a disturbance of any kind.
"This complaining individual is apparently a jealous boyfriend who followed Mr. Jordan into the men's bathroom. Mr. Jordan did not commit any criminal offense whatsoever and continues to remain cooperative with any law enforcement inquiry into this situation. As attorneys for Cam Jordan our investigation reveals that there was no criminal misconduct committed by Mr. Jordan."
