A man with a shotgun robbed three people in an Uptown park.

The incident happened around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Square, located at the corner of Camp Street and Napoleon Avenue. The park is just steps away from the NOPD 2nd District Station.

The victims, identified as three 18-year-old men, tell police they were sitting in the park when the gunman approached. He demanded the victims’ phones and cash.

New Orleans Police Department Commander Paul Noel said his team has issued a warrant and questioned a suspect in the case. However, an arrest has not been made.

Noel added that his division is making headway fighting crimes like these.

“For the last four years since I've been here, armed robberies are the most important crime that we investigate,” Noel said, referring to crimes in New Orleans’ second district. “They're always a serious issue. In August, we had 19. We've knocked that down to actually three so far in September.”
