Police: Gunman arrested after armed robbery near Mid-City NOPD headquarters

A 53-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint near the New Orleans Police Department’s Mid-City headquarters.

Charles Kennell, 17, was arrested following the incident.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of S. Dorgenois Street and Tulane Ave.  It happened in broad daylight just one block from NOPD headquarters on S. Broad Street.

Officers say that Kennell pressed a gun to a 53-year-old woman’s back and demanded her purse. The victim complied and the suspect fled the scene.

Kennell was arrested Thursday morning on one count of armed robbery with a firearm and one count of illegal carrying of weapons.
