NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Plans to overhaul Convention Center Boulevard hit a snag.
According to our partners at NOLA.com|The Times-Picayune, the Convention Center's leader says Mayor Mitch Landrieu is blocking a project that would reduce the boulevard to one lane of traffic in each direction. In addition to reducing lanes of traffic, the project calls for expanding the area's pedestrian plaza and bike lane.
In a written statement, the mayor's office notes the the city is working to "propose alternative solutions that ease vehicular congestion in the area and accommodate a pedestrian walkway."
Convention Center leaders want the project to jumpstart efforts to follow through with a $175 million plan to upgrade operations.
