Park(ing) day draws attention to green space in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

If you noticed fewer places to park downtown today, there’s an interesting reason. 

Artists and activists transformed a handful of metered parking spaces into temporary exhibits, as part of the Downtown Development District’s annual PARK (ing) Day.

The purpose is to draw attention for the need for green space in the city, even in areas that have become crowded.

Exhibits included an upright piano and checker board on St. Charles Avenue, an animal themed bike display from the Krewe of Kolossus on Julia Street, a fantasy field of balloons on Baronne Street, and a canopied garden patio area on St. Joseph Street, sponsored by the Sewerage and Water Board.
