Arrest warrant issued for Algiers murder suspect

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Police obtained an arrest warrant for the person they believe shot and killed a 26-year-old man in Algiers.

NOPD named Wellington Cornin as a suspect in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Aaron Bannister.

The shooting occurred inside of an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Garden Oaks Drive on May 23, 2015. Police responded to the call of a male shot on the second floor of the complex around 3:10 p.m. When officers arrived they found Bannister with multiple gunshot wounds on his body. EMS transported Bannister to the hospital where he died.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives developed Cornin as a suspect.

Cornin, 24, will be booked with Second Degree Murder once apprehended by police.
