One dead, one injured in I-10 motorcycle crash

LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - A two-motorcycle crash left one man dead and another seriously injured Friday night.

According to State Police, the two motorcycles were traveling west on I-10 near Laplace around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 18. The motorcycle traveling in front, a three-wheel Harley Davidson operated by 62-year-old Richard Kline, drifted to the right and its back tire made contact with the front-left tire of a three-wheel Cam Am operated by 66-year-old Louis Sevin Jr.

The contact caused Kline to swerve off the left side of the road and Sevin to go off the right side. Both men were ejected from their motorcycles.

According to police, Kline was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge with serious injuries. Sevin was pronounced dead on the scene.

Both men were wearing US Department of Transportation approved helmets according to State Police. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, though routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
