NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The City of New Orleans this week received more than $2 million through two federal grants to hire more police officers and to buy more body cameras

On Monday, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced that the city will receive an estimated $1.875 million over three years to fund 15 officers through the COPS Hiring Program. Also on Monday, the Department of Justice announced that the city will receive $237,000 through the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s $20 million Body-Worn Camera Pilot Implementation Program launched in May. The city will provide matching funds that will be combined with the federal grant to purchase 250 body cams.
