NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Cox TV customers who don't have digital boxes will lose their cable TV service in a matter of months.

The company is working to phase out analog service so that it can free up bandwidth. More bandwidth will allow the company to increase the number of HD channels and speed up Internet service.

Small digital boxes will be offered - temporarily - to analog customers for free. That will allow customers to keep TV service. Eventually, all customers will need to upgrade to rentals of digital boxes.

Cox Communications expects to complete the phase-out of analog service in this area in January. It will begin to remove some analog channels on Dec. 8.
