HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - An 82-year-old woman was found tied up in her bedroom after three men broke into her Houma home, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office said.
The incident happened around 2:40 a.m. Friday in the 9600 block of E. Park Ave.
"We're lucky she's alive," said the victim's granddaughter, who asked not to be identified. "We're lucky they didn't do anything more to her, praying to the good Lord that someone was watching over her."
Deputies said that the woman was sleeping when she was awakened by three men who had forced their way into her home. The suspects bound the woman by her hands and ankles and left her in the bedroom, officers said.
"It looks like it appears to be random, but I would believe that whoever went there knew that this person was home alone to know that there was no other people in the house at the time," said Maj. Malcolm Wolfe with the Sheriff's Office.
The suspects rummaged through the residence and fled the scene.
The victim managed to reach her cell phone and call her daughter for help. Officers said the victim was not seriously injured, but her granddaughter had a message for the intruders.
"God has a special place for ya, and I don't think it's in heaven," she said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-743-7433 or the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office at (985) 876-2500.
