NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

People in Mid-City won't lose their library branch at the end of October.

The owners of the American Can Company have granted the Mid-City branch a lease extension that will allow the branch to remain in operation on Orleans Avenue through Jan. 31, 2016.

The owners originally wanted the library to vacate its space by Oct. 24.

"We are fully committed to a Mid-City branch and hope to announce a new, long-term location in the coming months," New Orleans Public Library Director Charles Brown said. "In the meantime, we will do everything we can to minimize any potential disruption of services to residents."
