LAFOURCHE PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Lafourche Parish deputies arrested a man and woman Tuesday (Sept. 29) after a 4-year-old boy was found wandering the street in Thibodaux.

Investigators say a Good Samaritan saw the child, blocked traffic, and took the child into her care until deputies arrived.

During the course of the investigation, deputies found the boy’s home, in Solar Trailer Park, with the front door open and no one inside. The child’s mother, Patrice Arcement, 29, arrived and admitted to deputies that she and the child’s father, Joseph Thomas, 32, left the boy at home alone while they went to run errands.

Arcement and Thomas were both arrested and booked with one count of Child Desertion each. They both posted $5,000 bond and were released.

“She cared for him until help arrived, and stayed with him even after that,” Sheriff Webre said about the good Samaritan who reported the incident. “Her selflessness and kind-hearted nature should be an example to all citizens and a reminder about the outstanding community in which we live.”
