Teens jailed in shooting that killed 1, injured 4-year-old boy

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Two teenagers are behind bars after members of the NOPD Violent Offender Warrant Squad arrested them in connection with a July 2015 shooting that killed 17-year-old Gerald Morgan and injured a 4-year-old boy.

The shooting happened July 21 in the 5900 block of Boeing Street. Police say around 2:00 p.m., officers were called out to investigate a call of two males shot in front of a residence. When officers arrived, they found Morgan suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, while the young boy sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm. 

Homicide detectives were able to identify 19-year-old Damond Jackson, 18-year-old Sterling Lewis and 18-year-old Joseph Davis as suspects in the shooting, with the assistance of Crimestoppers tips.

Officers arrested Jackson Thursday morning at a home in the 7100 block of Foch Street. He is charged with Second Degree Murder and five counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder.

Police also arrested Lewis this morning at a home in the 6700 block of Dorian Street. Lewis is charged with Principal Second Degree Murder and five counts of Principal Attempted Second Degree Murder.

Davis is still at-large. Once apprehended, he will be charged with Second Degree Murder and five counts of Attempted Second Degree Murder.
