(WVUE) -

A photo from the International Space Station shows Hurricane Joaquin churning over the Bahamas.

The photo was taken by Scott Kelly, a NASA astronaut on a one-year mission. He tweeted the photo early Friday morning.

Joaquin is now a Category 4 hurricane. Maximum sustained winds were near 130 mph Friday morning. The storm is currently battering the Bahamas.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says some fluctuations in strength are possible during the day with slow weakening expected to begin Saturday.

As of 5 a.m. EDT, the storm was centered about 20 miles (35 kilometers) northeast of Clarence Long Island in the Bahamas and is moving northwest near 3 mph (6 kph).

Travelers and residents of the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. are advised to monitor the movements of the massive hurricane.
