NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

On Sunday, Oct. 11, New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond will welcome victims and survivors of violence to St. Louis Cathedral as part of the annual Mass for Victims and Survivors of Violence.

The Mass will begin at 11 am.

During the Mass, the archbishop plans to acknowledge those who have been victims and survivors of violence as well as their families and offer special prayers and blessings for their healing.

All families are invited to bring a photo of a loved one who was killed as a result of violence for a special memorial in the cathedral.

In "Our Family Prayer" prayed every weekend at Catholic Churches in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, local Catholics pray that God will, "give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence," and church leaders say this small gesture is one way the local Catholic Church may help bring a sense of healing to family and friends.

Archbishop Aymond will greet all of the families personally following the Mass.
