Activist, educator Blanche Francis dies at 89

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Longtime educator and civil rights activist Blanche Francis passed away Monday from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. She was 89.

Mrs. Francis, the wife of former Xavier University President Dr. Norman Francis, was a lifelong New Orleanian.

She is survived by her husband; four sons, Dr. Michael, Timothy and David Francis of New Orleans, and Patrick Francis of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Kathleen Francis of New York and Christina Francis of Los Angeles; a sister, Clarita Reed of New Orleans; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements had not been finalized at the time of publication.
