HAPPENING TODAY: Nat'l night out against crime; Plaq. Parish to discuss undercover drug operation

32nd Annual Kelly Marrione National Night Out Against Crime

Residents and law enforcement agencies across the city will celebrate the 32nd annual Night Out Against Crime. Civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials will rally together in the fight against crime. The New Orleans Police Department and other city officials will begin the festivities at 5:30 p.m. in the St. Roch Park at 1800 St. Roch Ave.

In Jefferson Parish, Crimestoppers invites residents out to the Bonnabel Boat Launch in Metairie from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. 

In addition to law enforcement displaying their enforcement tools/services, free food will be provided to all guests. Crimestoppers will be also provide safety booklets, safety whistles and other items including a limited number of Crimestoppers Night Out T-shirts.  Children will be able to have their faces painted, decorate trick or treat bags, jump in the inflatable house, climb the rock wall and play laser tag while also learning the importance of fire safety by going into the "Safe Escape - Smoke House".

To assist with parking concerns, starting at 5:00 p.m. a shuttle will run between the Bucktown Marina and the Bonnabel Boat Launch until closing.

There are more than 200 parties scheduled around the metro area.

Plaquemines Parish Undercover Drug Operation

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office will hold a press conference Tuesday morning to provide information on the results of a year-long undercover drug operation  called “Operation Who’s Next”.  The operation resulted in 54 defendants.  Currently, 9 defendants are wanted and remain at-large. Additional details are expected at the 10 a.m. news conference.
