SAN FRANCISCO (WVUE) -

Tourists waiting for a ferry were mesmerized, or horrified, depending on how you look at it, when a great white shark attacked a seal at the Alcatraz Island dock.

According to the Associated Press, the feeding frenzy happened on Saturday around noon. A National Parks staff member confirmed the event, which was also caught on camera.

While some witnessed gasped, at least one youngster thought it was "cool."

"A frenzy! That's a great white! Holy crud," shouted another boy.

The Director of the San Francisco based shark conservation group Shark Stewards and Research Associate at the California Academy of Sciences said the great white looked to be about 8-10 feet long.

"There is no way you could escape this place," said a nearby woman.

In 1962, Frank Lee Morris and Clarence and John Anglin, escaped the prison walls of Alcatraz. How far they got, no one knows. The story of the escape was turned into a movie, starring Clint Eastwood.

One of the boys in the video was thinking of another movie during the encounter.

"It's Jaws. It's Jaws," he said has the shark swam closer to the dock.

There is no record of an attack on humans inside the San Francisco Bay area, according to the Associated Press.
